Worcester Woods Country Park
Worcester Woods Country Park is 38 Hectares in size and is a great place for a family friendly visit, whether you are looking for birds, swings, coffee, flowers, footpaths or all of these and more, you’ve come to the right place!
The park has two nature reserves, Nunnery Wood and Hornhill Meadows, plus a large flat mown field area called The Events field. This is a great space to let children run around and play games. There is also a large picnic area by the cafe and benches dotted around the park.
There are two main trail paths to follow as you explore the park; firstly the Woodland Trail. This is a 1/2 mile circular trail through Nunnery Wood, which has been around since the middle ages. The woodland pond is a natural habitat for many creatures. Great crested Newts breed here, along with pond snails, water beetles and dragonfly larva. If you come at the right time of year you may see a mass of Bluebells throughout the woods as well!
The second trail path is the Meadow Trail. This is a 1/2 mile self-guided trail past Hornhill Orchard and into the Hornhill Meadows nature reserve. Remains of the Medievel Farmstead can still be seen along this trail and the path is rich with wild flowers. The meadows are home to a large variety of birds, including Bullfinches and Goldfinches. If you see a green flash and hear cacking laughing, a Green Woodpecker just flown past! There are also a host of voles, wood mice, shrews, butterflies and moths.
After you’ve finished exploring the park, why not pop in and visit the award winning Orchard Cafe in the park? With indoor and outdoor seating, hot and cold food, great coffee and delicious cakes, the cafe is open seven days a week all year round.
